HAITI UPDATE - Feb 10, 2010
To: IHII Friends
The In His Image International Haiti Team #4 is currently working hard in Port au Prince. Monday they were in the middle of excitement, as they were the initial triage clinic for the man pulled out of the rubble that made national headlines. Even though it has been four weeks since the earthquake, the medical needs continue to be significant.
We have received emails and texts from our team communicating some details to us. Team #4 leader Dr. Chad Moore (IHI faculty) writes:
Things are going very well! It is almost inconceivable to think we very nearly called off this trip 4 days ago with no connecting flight available out of Atlanta to make it to Haiti as originally planned.(Editor’s note: instead they rented cars at midnight and drove 9 hours through the night to catch the flight early the next morning.)
God is answering prayers and steps of faith, truly showing His great love and concern for the people of Haiti...in a very palpable way.The team is united in extending the grace and love of Christ. We continue to see acute injuries related to the earthquake, as people show up daily and through the night with lacerations after unstable buildings occasionally drop debris. We sent give to the hospital on Monday, including one with meningitis, a seizing infant who was only fed water for a week, and the gentleman that was pulled from the rubble.
Continue to pray for the salvation of people of Haiti, and that we would all be given strength to complete the work that God has called us to do.
We are so proud of the work and effort of these teams. Those on Team #3, who recently returned, told us that they believe a spiritual revival is beginning to break out in Haiti, with songs of praise and worship going late into the night and starting daily at 5 am in the tent cities. We know that it is only Jesus who can bring hope and healing to this devastated country, and that humanitarian relief without the Gospel is only a very temporary solution.
Thank you so much for your prayers and support. I trust the Lord will bless you for your part in reaching out to these desperately needy people. May His Kingdom come and His Will be done in Haiti!
God bless you,

HAITI UPDATE - Feb 5, 2010
Since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook the country of Haiti on January 12, three medical mission teams from In His Image International (IHII) have responded to victims of the devastated country. The third team is on the ground in Port-au-Prince now and the news we received yesterday included, “We see real hope and life sprouting from rubble”. What an encouragement!
The teams have been treating and praying with 200-300 patients each day (well over 3,000 in total so far) - and praise the Lord: hundreds of salvations have been reported! The reports and comments from the Salvation Army about our teams have been outstanding.
This first week of February, the team helped to distribute 550,000 meals to the Haitian people living in the tent communities surrounding the clinic site.
A fourth medical team from IHII leaves for Haiti TODAY. We truly appreciate your continued prayers and support!
In His Image sent out a team this weekend that arrived in Port Au Prince, Haiti on Sunday, Jan. 15. Four family practice residents and one Behavioral Medicine faculty member were on the team. Today I talked with Dr. Sherri O’Donnell and Rev. Joel Leitch, our team leaders. Our team is working long hours and seeing many very sick and injured patients. Yesterday over 200 patients were cared for, and there will be even more than that today. Our team is working very closely with the Salvation Army, who have provided logistical and housing support for our team, as well as an outdoor clinical site for patient care. They have also provided personnel for translation and crowd control.
Medical problems include fractures, dislocations, open wounds and lacerations, crush injuries, respiratory illnesses, diarrhea, stress related problems and many other difficult issues. The patients have been very grateful for the care and have been receiving ministry in the form of prayer and words of encouragement from our team. As well, our team has been able to provide water and food from this site for needy persons.
Please feel free to share this information. We will most likely be sending more physicians and medical personnel in the near future. There continues to be great need for medical care and medical supplies.
Sincerely,
Mitch Duininck, MD
